Yuna Kim is an internationally acclaimed South Korean figure skater born on September 5, 1990 in Bucheon, Gyeonggi. She started figure skating at the tender age of 5 years old, which blossomed into an illustrious, glorious and record-breaking figure skating career. Although she initially trained in South Korea, she moved to Canada for four years to train. Thereafter, she came back to South Korea where her usual trainings were held. She is currently already retired.
Yuna Kim’s first international competition was in Slovenia in a competition called the “Triglay Trophy”, where she won first place in the novice competition. She started becoming internationally recognized at this point in her life. At the age of 11, she became the youngest South Korean skater to complete 5 various triple jumps. Winning the senior title at the “South Korean Championships” proved to be one among many succeeding milestones in her career, in view of the fact that she was the youngest skater in history to bag that title.
Subsequently, Yuna Kim won first place at her second international competition named “Golden Bear of Zagreb”. She immediately became part of the Korean national team in middle school and won several competitions such as the “ISU Junior Grand Prix” and the “2006 Junior World Figure Skating Championships”.
Yuna Kim became the first female skater and South Korean skater to win the Olympic Games in 2010, as well as being the first female skater to win the “World Championships”, the “Four Continents Championships” and the “Grand Prix Finals”. She competed in the “Winter Olympic” games on February 2014 in Sochi, Russia, where there was a heated dispute regarding the scoring and judging of the figure skaters’ performances. Ultimately, she won her last silver, later on announcing her retirement after the competition and putting a strong and gracious end to her “no off stage” figure skating career due to the fact that she never entered a competition without winning a place lower than third
“Queen Yuna”, Yuna Kim’s well-loved title that was coined by the public, ultimately lived up to the name with her long list of groundbreaking awards and making history by achieving what many thought could not be accomplished.
