Born on July 3, 1980 in Oklahoma City as Lisa Olivia Munn, Olivia Munn is an American actress, television personality, author, and model. She is of mixed heritage: She has German and Irish line on her father’s side and a Vietnamese-Chinese line on her mother’s side. Her mother Kim fled from Vietnam to the United States when the war ended. She used to be known as Lisa Munn until she permanently changed her professional name to Olivia Munn in 2006.
Olivia spent some of her childhood in Tokyo due to the fact that her stepfather was in the military. Because she spent many years living there, she speaks fluent Japanese. In Japan, she also spent some time modeling and acting in local theater productions. She moved back to the United States in her last two years’ of high school and got her journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma. She started her professional career as a television journalist, interning at Fox Sports Net and the NBC affiliate in Tulsa before delving into acting. She has starred in various supporting roles in film and television since 2004.
Her other film credits include the role of Maria in Big Stan (2007) with Rob Schneider and as a nurse in the horror film Insanitarium. She had bigger roles in commercially successful movies like Date Night (2010) with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey, Iron Man 2 (2010) with Robert Downey, Jr. and Magic Mike (2012) with Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum. She also appeared in the television series The Newsroom (HBO) and New Girl (FOX). In 2015 and 2016, she is slated to appear in the feature film Mordecai and Ride Along 2. Olivia is also part of some charity work such as PETA’s campaign to free sick elephants from a touring circus and posed for PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked than Wear Fur” campaign. She has also been consistently on the list of Maxim’s Hot 100 Women since 2010.
