Choi Ji Woo is a South Korean actress, scriptwriter and model. She was born with the name Choi Mi-hyang but chose a stage name after she won the MBC talent search in 1994. She is now 38 and is a Gemini. She attended Pusan Women’s College studying Aerobic Dance and also studied for one year at Hanyang University’s Department of Theater and Film.
Her first movie debut was cut short; she was cast in a major roll for the 1996 film ‘The Gate of Destiny’ but was due to her lack of experience. She didn’t give up so easily though and over the next few years she gained popularity in a variety of TV and movie roles portraying innocence and beauty effortlessly.
The on screen drama ‘Winter Sonata’ directed by Yoon Seok-ho was her crowning glory. She acted along side Bae Yong-joo and the pair were later able to try out their voice acting when an anime version of the drama was created. They have been described numerous times as the perfect couple.
In 2006 she was awarded the timeless beauty acting award and has previously been awarded numerous others including but not limited to Best Actress for ‘The Whole’ in 1998, Best Dresser Award 2002 and the 2003 Golden Awards: Popularity Award for ‘The Romantic President.’ When a poll was made for the top ranking earners from the Japanese stars of 2011 Choi was rated number 5 with $2000,000.
Her film career was met with much higher regard in Japan than in her home country Korea, especially with her terminally ill character in ‘Now and Forever’ and her attempt at a sexier character in the comedy ‘Everybody Has Secrets.’
Although 2009 saw Choi Ji-Woo break the record for the highest paid Korean actress that year, she was receiving ₩48000,000 for each episode of the drama ‘Star’s Lover’, where she plays a successful movie star who falls in love with an average Joe.
Choi Ji-Woo set up a talent management agency in 2009 called the C, JW Company and appointed her brother as CEO. In 2012 she spend a month traveling though South Career as the co host of a food show on cable TV, designed to introduce the regional delicacies to people not from the area. To top it all off in 2013 she played her most difficult role yet. The housekeeper for a family, in which she plays a suspicious and emotionally stoic housekeeper, far from any role she has yet attempted.
