Keiko Kitagawa was born in Hyogo Perfecture, Japan on August 22, 1986. When she was a child, she thought of becoming a doctor but she did not pursue it when she grew up.
A talent agency offered her to join the entertainment industry. She decided to take the offer and forget about her dream to be a doctor. Her parents did not object to her decision but they still wanted her to finish her studies.
In the first years of her career, she was also a model. She became Miss Seventeen in the year 2003. Seventeen was a popular magazine in Japan. She was part of the magazine until 2006. In television, her first project was “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” where she played Sailor Mars and Rei Hino.
With Director Yoshimitsu Morita’s influence, Keiko Kitagawa left her modeling career and focused on improving her acting skills. The director was amazed by her performance in the film “Mamiya Kyodai”. She starred in three more films in 2003: Mizu ni Sumu Hana, Cherry Pie, and Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
In March 2009, she graduated from the Meiji University in Tokyo, earning a degree major in Commercial Science in Meiji University, Tokyo.
From 2010 to 2014, Keiko Kitagawa was part of many films and television shows where mostly she was the main lead. Some of these films are After the Flowers, Matataki, Paradise Kiss, Roommate, Judge, Dakishimetai, and Akumu-chan The Movie. Hostess with a Pen, Moon Lovers, Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni, Akumu-chan, and Hero were among the series she had starred into.
Because of her versatility in acting, Keiko Kitagawa had received the Best Actress in 2009 Summer Movies Drama Award from the 13th Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix. She was also nominated as Best Actress for her role in Akumu-chan in the year 2013.
