Jeannie Mai was born in San Jose, California on January 4, 1979. She is widely known as a fashion expert, makeup artist, stylist and TV personality. Jeannie Mai’s bubbly and charming on-screen persona is a big hit with audiences as she hosts Style Network’s How Do I Look? She is of Vietnamese descent.
She is also the host of many other programs such as Character Fantasy and a backstage commentator during the Miss Universe beauty pageant. As a fashion expert, she can be seen as a resident guru on various television programs like on Extra TV and E!’s Daily 10. She also currently co-hosts the talk show The Real with Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon and Tamera Mowry.
Jeannie Mai began interviewing her toys and doing makeovers on her dolls at a very young age. She went to De Anza College and majored in Communications.
When she was 18, Jeannie launched her career in fashion working as a makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics. She worked hard, eventually becoming a trainer until she was able to go around the world and work with celebrities such as Rosario Dawson, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys. She also served as an in-house celebrity make-up artist for MTV and KCAL Los Angeles.
She eventually landed on primetime as a host on USA Network’s Character Fantasy. In 2009, Mai took over the hosting duties of Style Network’s How Do I Look? This Emmy-nominated show introduced her to a wider audience. She then served as correspondent and weekend host on NBC’s Extra TV with Mario Lopez. Her current talk show The Real has been a huge success and has been picked up by FOX for a second season.
With her huge success, Jeannie Mai is very aware of her Asian heritage and strives to represent Asian women in a positive light all the time. She frequently travels to Asia to volunteer her time in worthwhile organizations such as Heartbeat Vietnam, which provides care for impoverished children and Night Light International, which rescues women and children from sex trafficking.
